Other Training Activities (OTA)
HOW TO OBTAIN OTA CREDITS
Some OTA announcements are posted on the Home Page as they become available, but students may obtain OTA credits in a great number of ways. All activities must be carried out during the period of enrolment in the degree programme. They must also comply with the University's code of ethics and institutional mission and contribute to enhancing the student's educational development.
1 OTA credit is awarded for every 25 hours of work completed (25 hours = 1 CFU).
1. INTERNSHIPS IN THE TSP SYSTEM
Students may obtain OTA credits by completing an internship offered on the TSP platform.
It is the responsibility of companies, associations and institutions to register on this platform and publish their internship offers. Faculty members are not involved in this process.
2. INTERNSHIPS AND OTA OFFERED BY SAPIENZA OR OTHER INSTITUTIONS
Students may also obtain OTA credits by completing the activities listed below. All activities must be properly certified according to the specific rules established for each of them.
Erasmus+ and Other Sapienza International Mobility Schemes (1 credit per semester)
- The successful completion of this activity must be documented through the official Transcript of Records issued by the host institution.
OVERSEAS Programme (2 credits)
Participation in the OVERSEAS Programme for extra-EU student mobility.
Additional Certified Courses and Seminars during an International Mobility (up to 2 credits)
Additional courses or seminars, with a final exam, completed during an Erasmus+ or other international mobility period, not included in the Learning Agreement.
The successful completion of this activity must be documented through an official certificate issued by the host institution.
Erasmus+ Traineeship (up to 6 credits)
- An internship in a foreign company.
- The successful completion of this activity must be documented through an official certificate issued by the host company/institution.
Italian Language Assistant Abroad (up to 6 credits)
- Service as an Italian language assistant in foreign schools.
- A recognised institution must issue a signed certificate in the student's name, confirming the successful completion of the course(s), on official letterhead, including the student's personal details.
Seminars and workshops (up to 4 credits, depending on the required work and according to rules established in advance by the responsible faculty member)
- University-level seminars or workshops organised by faculty members.
- The faculty member responsible for the event must issue a signed certificate in the student's name, confirming attendance and positive evaluation of the paper, on official letterhead, including the student's personal details and ID number.
Conferences and lecture series (1 credit)
- University-level conferences or lectures that require at least 8 hours of participation and the production of written papers and/or reports approved by a faculty member, in accordance with the instructions provided in each case.
- The faculty member responsible for the event must issue a signed certificate in the student's name, confirming attendance and positive evaluation of the paper/report, on official letterhead, including the student's personal details and ID number.
Foreign language courses (up to 4 credits)
Language courses in languages other than English or the student's native language(s). These courses must be validated by a Sapienza lecturer of the corresponding language of study.
A recognised institution must issue a signed certificate in the student's name, confirming the successful completion of the course(s), on official letterhead, including the student's personal details.
Advanced IT Courses (Structured Programming) (1 credit)
- Courses in website development, Microsoft Access databases, HTML and JavaScript.

Student Representation (up to 2 credits)
- Service as a Student Representative in the Degree Programme Council, the Faculty Assembly or other official university bodies.
- A relevant authority must issue a signed certificate in the student's name, confirming the successful completion of the collaboration, on official letterhead, including the student's personal details.
Sapienza Collaboration Contracts (up to 6 credits)
- Collaboration with any Sapienza unit or office.
- A relevant authority must issue a signed certificate in the student's name, confirming the successful completion of the collaboration, on official letterhead, including the student's personal details.
Departmental Internships (up to 6 credits)
Substitute Teaching in Italian Schools (up to 6 credits)
Civil Service and Volunteer Work (up to 6 credits)
Provided that this is relevant to the learning objectives of the degree programme and meets appropriate quality standards.
Work Experience Relevant to the Degree Programme (up to 6 credits)
Provided that this is relevant to the learning objectives of the degree programme and meets appropriate quality standards.
Subject to approval by the Internship and OTA Coordinators and submission of the required Self-Certification Form for working students, together with a valid employment contract.
Work Experience Not Directly Related to the Degree Programme (up to 2 credits)
Subject to approval by the Internship and OTA Coordinators and submission of the required Self-Certification Form for working students, together with a valid employment contract.
3. INTERNSHIPS PROPOSED BY STUDENTS
Students may also independently arrange an internship with an association, company or institution outside the university system, either as paid employment or volunteer work. To do so, they must submit a proposal for an individual internship to the designated faculty members.
Before starting the activity, students must complete the dedicated online form, providing all required information.
For individually arranged activities to be eligible for credit, the following conditions must be met:
The activity must be consistent with the overall educational objectives of the degree programme (not necessarily limited to the specific languages of study).
The host organisation must demonstrate reliability and professionalism. This must be documented through a preliminary project outlining the activities to be carried out, the on-site supervisor, the total number of hours, and the duration of the internship.
The project must be submitted on official letterhead and include full institutional details (VAT number or Tax Code, registered address, contact information, website, responsible officer, etc.) and be signed by an authorised representative.
At the end of the internship, the student must obtain a final report from the host organisation including:
the trainee's personal details and academic status (year of enrolment, etc.);
a description of the activities carried out;
the duration and total number of hours completed;
a brief evaluation of the student's performance.
HOW TO REGISTER OTA CREDITS
The formal registration of OTA credits follows the same procedure as a regular examination and is carried out by the designated faculty members in accordance with the rules of the degree programme.
Once students are in their second year and have earned all 6 OTA credits, they may register on InfoStud for an official exam session with one of the faculty members appointed by the Degree Programme Council and then submit (or email) all relevant documentation:
