Buddy Programme

The Buddy Programme is a system that supports incoming students joining the EAAS course organized by the EAAS students tutors. Incoming students are matched with second-year students that will help them to navigate the experience of studying at La Sapienza and to become familiar with this new situation. The Buddies will not just give information related to university life, but they will especially help the new students to know more about life in Rome, sharing their experiences as students and advice on how to overcome initial difficulties here.

HOW TO BECOME A BUDDY (second-year students)

If you are a second-year student and you want to take part in the programme, you need to fill the form here: https://forms.gle/WC28bHXKEWML8BGFA. Each student can be a Buddy for one or two semesters. Students will have to apply for the programme before the beginning of each semester. Students will receive up to 2 CFU valid for Other Training Activities for each semester as Buddies. Each Buddy will tutor an incoming student (or more than one) that will be assigned by the responsible office. Buddies will have to make sure to be a reliable reference point for the incoming student to help him familiarize with everyday situations, both inside and outside campus. The programme will also organize activities for Buddies and new students to spend time with other participants in the programme, to meet new people and create a network of students outside class. Participation in these events is highly recommended. At the end of your experience you will have to provide a report on the time spent in meetings with the tutors and engaging in activities with your assigned students. You have time until the end of December  to submit your application form.

Requisites:

  • A basic knowledge of Italian in order to help incoming students that might not be familiar with the language yet.

  • A good knowledge of the EAAS course and how it works, in order to help the new students with information that goes beyond what is on the EAAS website.

  • Be available for at least one semester. The number of work hours to complete to obtain 2 CFU is 50 hours. It will not be sufficient to just take part with the assigned students to the events organized by the programme, but the Buddy will have to independently organize activities for the assigned students and keep in touch with them throughout the duration of the programme.

  • Be familiar with the problems and the situations that an international student may encounter during the first period in Rome.

  • Be familiar with university life beyond courses, in order to also show the opportunities offered to the students by the university and the city

  • Be patient, kind and have spirit of adventure!

HOW TO APPLY FOR A BUDDY (incoming students)

If you are an incoming student and you would like to be matched to a Buddy that will help you, you just have to fill this form: https://forms.gle/AtS7bMuiCnku23uW9. You will be assigned to a Buddy that will tutor an  incoming student, so you will immediately have the chance to meet new people joining the course! Once the selection process is over, you will receive an email with your Buddy's contacts before the beginning of classes. Keep in mind that the Buddy is a student just like you, but with a little more experience in living and studying in Rome. The Buddy won't be able to answer all your questions and he/she won't be a substitute for the Sapienza students office, but he/she will tell you where to look for answers. Remember also that a Buddy will have to attend classes and study just like you, so be respectful of each other's time and energy. If you have any questions about the programme or you are encountering difficulties with your Buddy, you can reach us at tutor.eaas@gmail.com .

Fill the form and get ready to start a new adventure with new buddies!
